theBalm Cosmetics Launch In New Zealand
November marked an exciting time for New Zealanders, well, mainly those of the female gender, because it was the official launch of theBalm Cosmetics in New Zealand! After hearing the rave overseas for this brand and the many Youtube videos and reviews, it was very nice to finally see its corporeal form and just a few feet away from the dispensary. The story of the brand started in a San Francisco kitchen in 2004 where founder Marissa Shipman began concocting her own makeup formulas after researching into this domain via the eleven books she bought on Amazon. What started out as the passion of a makeup enthusiast expanded into a world-wide seller within a decade, and now it has reached the shores way down south of the globe. Shipman's success story is an inspiration to those who want to build a business empire from scratch, including that of myself. It was very fortunate for me the launch of this new brand in New Zealand was exclusive to pharmacies owned by Green Cross Health, whom I work for. I was beyond excited when the training dates were rolled out for each region and I signed myself up despite being a pharmacist who mainly work behind the dispensary.
The Wellington group seminar being set up in Life Pharmacy Manners Street.
It was an exciting evening as staff from the Life and Unichem Pharmacies in the Wellington region gathered at Life Pharmacy Manners Street. To my delight drinks and finger foods were provided so I did not spend the evening struggling with a rumbling stomach. The session was led by Angie and Sophie from the team at theBalm NZ and celebrity makeup artist Abbie Gardiner. The evening was informative but perhaps the highlight was when everyone discovered the Meet Matt(e) Trimony eyeshadow palette in their goodie bags. Overall it was a fun night filled with lots of tips and tricks.
Meet Matt(e) Trimony. Yes it is a pun and it is glorious.

So, "what is so good about theBalm?" you ask. The first thing you will notice when browsing through theBalm's collection is their unique, colourful and pun-filled packaging. Every design screams retro with two dashes of wittiness. The products themselves are highly pigmented, easy to apply and very long-lasting. The products were designed to suit all skin-types with most skin tones in mind.
The company's main philosophy is "beauty in five minutes" and each of their products were specifically designed to reflect that. Their eyeliners and mascara applicators were cleverly designed to help you achieve the perfect eye look without the hassle and frustration. The shadows and powders all come as a creamy formula so it glides onto the skin easily and blends really well. They blend so easily you can create a whole look using just your fingers. Best of all is the products were designed to be multipurpose. You can use the powders for contouring, adding a pop of colour on the cheeks or as eyeshadows. This can certainly help cut down on the spending and is great news for avid travelers or those on-the-go as you can downsize your makeup bag, making it more portable.
The brand is simply fun, fashionable and very high-end. If that is not enough to convince you it is also marketed as talc-free, paraben-fee and cruelty-free. Their website also provides extensive video tutorials on their various products and each packaging comes with a QR code you can scan with your smartphone and it will take you straight to the video.
theBalm Cosmetics is currently available exclusively to selected Life and Unichem Pharmacies in New Zealand. Be sure to head to your nearest store to try out and play around with their range if you have not already. My personal favourite is their Meet Matt(e) Hughes liquid lipsticks so be sure to give these a go. As it is also their honeymoon period in the launch, be sure to follow theBalm NZ on Facebook and Instagram and your local Life or Unichem Pharmacies on social media for your chance to win theBalm products. If you have tried out the products be sure to comment below and share your thoughts on this brand.
